The Gobbler: Paul depuis 1889

One of my favourite cafe’s here in Dubai is Paul. I guess I’m slightly partial because it is my namesake.

I was introduced to this place because of my ex of many moons ago, who absolutely adored their French onion soup (which I guess they call merely as “onion soup‘, being a French restaurant and all?).

Exterior of the Paul Dubai Mall

Paul is a French chain of bakery, cafe and restaurants established in 1889 in the town of Croix, in France by Charlemagne Mayot. It specialises in serving French products including breads, crepes, sandwiches, macaroons, soups, cakes, pastries, coffee, wine and beer. Paul belongs to Groupe Holder, which also owns the French luxury bakery, Laduree (another one of my favourites!) – Source: Wikipedia.com

What I love about Paul tho, is their ambiance. I love how their place is conducive to working, with their comfortable sitting options, lighting and WiFi amenities and the wide range of menu items they offer. In fact, this blogpost was was written inside the Paul, while I enjoyed their iced Spanish Latte and Cheesecake. It is unfortunate that I am not able to take more indoor photos, but I didn’t want to disturb my fellow diners or draw too much attention to myself.

I would normally order a plate of their delectable Buratta Salad, however due to the CoVID19 Pandemic, they were forced to cut some items in their menu, considering the limited number of guests that comes in nowadays and unfortunately, my ever favourite Buratta Salad did not make the cut.

The New Normal

The limited menu is only one of their many adjustments in order to adjust to the “new normal”. All wait staff and crew are in masks and gloves, there are sanitizers in every table, and they’ve now eliminated the use of physical menus, opting instead for a digital menu accessible through scanning their QR Code with your smart phone.

The perfect pair – Iced Spanish Latte + Strawberry Cheesecake

Their coffee and dessert selection is noteworthy tho, and my all time favourite is their Strawberry Cheesecake and Iced Cafe Latte. It’s no secret that every birthday celebration and other special occasion, Paul’s Strawberrty Cheesecake is always included in my dinner spread.

Al Fresco Dining Area – Paul Dubai Mall

This particular branch in Dubai Mall that I frequent even has a very nice outdoor seating area overlooking the Dubai Mall Dancing Fountain, and if you look closely enough, you’ll get a peek of the tallest building in the world, the legendary Burj Khalifa.

I would really strongly recommend you try out the food at Paul or meet a few friends here to share their delectable desserts (and calories) while you catch up!

Have you been to Paul? If so, did you enjoy your visit as much as I did? Let me know in the comments section below.

Til then,
